As the production process of PVC consuming 1.4 tons of calcium carbide per ton, the change of PVC cost of calcium carbide method is mainly affected by calcium carbide. Since October 2020, the rising price of calcium carbide has led to the rise of PVC cost. Especially after 2021, under the background of the assessment of electricity consumption, calcium carbide, as a high energy consumption industry, has been greatly restricted. The cost of PVC enterprises has been rising with the increase. In October 2021, the cost of some enterprises in East China is more than 15000 yuan/ton. By the end of 2022, the calcium carbide price has been maintained at 3900-4550 yuan/ton, with the high price appearing in mid-March and the low price in late February and April. Therefore, the cost of PVC enterprises is also synchronous.
Vinyl process PVC cost changes are affected by the price of ethylene and vinyl chloride. The cost of PVC enterprises using ethylene method gradually increases from the end of April 2020, starting from the conversion of VCM, the highest position appears in late October 2021, more than 14,600 yuan/ton. In January 2022, the supply of vinyl chloride increased, and the cost of PVC production enterprises in the ethylene process decreased; In February vinyl chloride downstream demand improved, the price rose; In March, the supply of VCM in Asia was tight, and the highest cost was 9750 yuan/ton at the end of March.
In the first quarter of 2022, the profit level of calcium carbide PVC was fair, mainly benefiting from the low price of raw calcium carbide. In January, the gross profit of PVC produced by foreign mining in Shandong was 33.6 yuan/ton, an increase of 1182.6 yuan/ton, and an increase of 6.6 yuan/ton year-on-year; At the end of February, the profit of PVC made from outside production of electrolytes increased by 165.5 yuan/ton to 199.1 yuan/ton. At the end of March, the profit of PVC produced by external production of electrolytic stone was 774 yuan/ton.
According to the accounting from VCM, in the first quarter of 2022, the profit level of PVC made by ethylene method is lower than that of calcium carbide method enterprises. In January, the cost of PVC manufacturers went down, the market price went up slightly, and the profit of enterprises increased. Into February, affected by the high price of raw vinyl chloride, ethylene method cost increase, at the same time in the middle and late February began to weaken the market trend, ethylene method price loosening, vinyl method of external production of more losses. In March, as the price of PVC rose and the price of VCM fell, the profit of PVC enterprises using ethylene method (PVC) improved. But the domestic vinyl PVC enterprises are mostly integrated devices, and the profit space is much larger than PVC enterprises.
